Specifically incorporating the coronal transient into the flare cartoon, and appealing to "nested helices" which sure looks like what LASCO often sees. But the paper itself waffles and says that the configuration "might look more like a tangled hodge-podge of field lines rather than simple helices." It sure seems that we know better now - check out the TRACE movie for July 15, 2002 for example.
