Observations from Yohkoh SXT in the new solar cycle have revealed that "spiky" arcades frequently display complex flow fields (see McKenzie & Hudson, ApJ June, 1999). The figure below shows an example:
The favored interpretation of this phenomenon is a structured form of the classical reconnection model, but with sub-Alfvenic exhaust flows.
We have compared a list of such events and found substantial overlaps, but also exceptions. We don't know yet whether the phenomena are related.
